Transforming care through trauma-informed, gender-responsive practice

For more than 35 years, Dr. Stephanie S. Covington has been a pioneer in the treatment of addiction and trauma that supports long-term recovery. As an internationally recognized clinician, author, and researcher, she leads in trauma-informed and gender-responsive care. Her work has transformed behavioral health, criminal justice, and community-based services.

Dr. Covington initially developed Helping Women Recover, the first manualized treatment program for women with substance use disorders. Since then, she has developed 11 additional treatment curricula.  These programs have been shown to improve psychological well-being, reduce substance use, and decrease recidivism. She has supported professionals worldwide in creating compassionate and equitable environments for diverse populations.
